ACCOUNTS RELEASED FOR 2025/25

Grimsby Town have published their 2024/25 financial accounts, revealing a £1.9m loss across a 13‑month reporting period.

The extended window included two months of June – historically the club’s most loss‑making period – meaning the underlying position is broadly similar to last year.

Financial and operational highlights

  • Turnover rose from £5.7m to £6m, driven by increased EFL distributions under the new Sky Sports deal.
  • Streaming revenue fell by 45% due to changes in domestic rules.
  • £1.3m of owner loans were converted to equity, continuing the long‑term debt‑reduction strategy.
  • £241k invested in Blundell Park and training‑ground improvements.
  • Player trading income reached £148k, including sales and sell‑on clauses.

The bigger picture

The accounts paint a club still investing in its football operations while working to narrow losses responsibly.

Supporter engagement remains strong, with 139,550 fans attending home league games – an average of 6,067 per match

INTERNATIONAL BREAK RESULTS COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER, BUT NOT A DISASTER

Positive Weekend for the Mariners Even Without Kicking a Ball

A rare blank weekend in late March might have felt like a pause in momentum, but for Town it has actually sharpened the opportunity ahead. While other sides in the top eight were slogging through another round of fixtures, the Mariners stayed exactly where they needed to be: right in the playoff race, with games in hand and a run‑in that now looks full of possibility.

The Table Tightens – But Advantage Grimsby?

The Mariners sit 8th on 62 points from 38 games just outside the playoff places but with a crucial difference compared to the teams around them: the Mariners still have eight matches left to play, while several rivals have already played 39 or 40.

That extra breathing room matters. It means:

  • More opportunities to collect points while others can only watch.
  • Greater control of the run‑in, rather than relying on favours elsewhere.
  • A chance to build momentum at exactly the right stage of the season.

Chesterfield, Crewe, Walsall and Oldham all played over the weekend, but none were able to pull decisively clear. The pack remains tightly bunched, and Grimsby’s games in hand now feel tough but helpful rather than a burden.

Why the Weekend Helped More Than It Hurt

A weekend off can sometimes leave a team feeling vulnerable, but this one has actually strengthened Grimsby’s position.

  • The Mariners didn’t lose too much ground despite not playing.
  • Rivals dropped points, keeping the playoff door wide open.
  • The squad gained rest, a valuable commodity with eight matches still to come.
  • Chance to get injured players fit, and international stars back

In a division where momentum swings wildly, staying in touch without expending energy is no bad thing.

The Run‑In: Eight Games, Everything to Play For

With eight fixtures remaining, Town have more football left than almost anyone around them. That means more chances to climb, more chances to apply pressure, and more chances to shape their own destiny.

Key themes for the final stretch:

  • Blundell Park must be a fortress. Home form will be decisive in a tight playoff chase, especially with 5 games away to come.
  • Goal difference is a quiet strength for Town, for once. At +16  Town hold an edge over several rivals if things get tight.
  • Momentum is within reach. A single winning run at this stage of the season can transform the table.

Every match now carries the feel of a cup tie, but the Mariners enter this phase with fresher legs and more opportunities than the teams they’re chasing.

A Positive Outlook

The weekend may have been quiet on the pitch, but it has set up a thrilling final chapter. The Mariners remain firmly in the hunt, armed with games in hand, a strong goal difference, and a run‑in that offers real possibility. The challenge is clear, but so is the opportunity.

Dave Dixon, 30th March 2026

chesterfield
didn't play

Chesterfield were supposed to play Town, but for their international break, so no change for the table

Impact on Town: None, Town have one game in hand over Chesterfield (v Cambridge Utd (away)) and a 7-goal superior goal difference, and are on the same points as Town, 62Pts and a place behind on 9th.

CREWE & OLDHAM
Played each other

Crewe Alexandra 2 Oldham Athletic 1

Crewe broke Oldham hearts in injury time to grab the win in this crucial playoff hunt clash. Oldham had led but were equalised by a cracking strike from Hutchinson just after half an hour.  Holicek who had been a thorn the Mariners side at Gresty Road earlier in the season scored the winner on 90+1 mins to win the game for Alex.

Impact on Town: Crewe overtake Town, and take 7th for now!  Arguably a draw in this match would have suited the Mariners best, though if one team was to win Crewe taking it means they're only one point ahead having played 2 more matches.  Had Oldham won they would have taken 7th by 2pts having only played one more game.  So in the list of possible scenarios this was the best but wasn't the worst!    Crewe 63Pts and a place ahead of Town on 7th with a GD of 12, four fewer than Town.

walsall, mk dons & salford
Draw, lose & win

Salford closed the gap on some of their rivals beating MK Dons.  Walsall drew at Colchester but having taken 8pts from thei last 6 games they'll need a big improvement to trouble the top 7.

Impact for Town: Bar a miracle Colchester are struggling to target a top 7 finish now. Salford on 70pts in 6th look hard to catch now, but they have a tough run in (who doesn't) so its not impossble.

Notts county, barnet & cambridge, plus swindon town
Win, win, lose & draw

Barnet kept the pressure up on the chasing pack and are now 12th, 2pts behind the Mariners having played two games more by subjecting Cambridge United to a rare defeat, only their 8th of the season.  The U's lost their automatic place to Notts County who beat struggling Harrogate Town.

Swindon struggled at home to Fleetwood with a 1-1 draw and again having only 8 more points than Grimsby they are far from out of sight having played 40 games two more than Town.

Impact for Town: Fleetwood and Colchester look out of the hunt now and it looks like Barnet, Walsall, Oldham, Chesterfield, The Mariners and Crewe are chasing 7th.  For Swindon and Salford falling out of the Top 7 looks unthinkable for them, though not impossible.

TOWN HEAD INTO
INTERNATIONAL BREAK IN GOOD SHAPE

TOWN Form, Fitness & the State of Play Heading Into the Break

The Mariners hit the international break in a position that feels steadier than the early-mid-season rollercoaster ever suggested.  This year has shown a side growing in confidence, tightening its structure, and finding ways to pick up points (and clean sheets) even when the performances aren’t flawless. The form line isn’t explosive, but it is trending upward, a run built on resilience, improved game management, and a squad beginning to look more balanced across the pitch.

From a fitness perspective, the break arrives at a good time. Town have carried a handful of knocks and fatigue issues through a congested spell, but there’s no major injury crisis hanging over the squad. The pause gives key players a chance to reset, recover, and return sharper for the run-in. For a team that has often struggled when depth is stretched, that alone is a victory.  Though Town's squad depth is the strongest in recent memory, the break will nonetheless give the injured players chance to be back for the run-in

The overall picture? Grimsby enter the break competitive, organised, and very much alive in the battle to climb the table. There’s work to do — there always is — but the foundations look stronger than they did a month ago. If the Mariners can convert their improved structure into a more ruthless edge in the final third, the post-break period could be decisive.

Why This Matters for the Mariners

Three call-ups at once is more than a scheduling inconvenience — it’s a badge of honour. It shows that Grimsby Town are recruiting and developing players with international pedigree, and that the squad now contains individuals capable of influencing games far beyond League Two.

When the break ends, Town will welcome back:

a goalscorer against Croatia,

a debutant who bagged a brace for Thailand,

and a Kenyan international with top-level versatility.

geza david turi
Faroe islands

Turi has become one of the standout stories of the break. The forward scored a shock opener against Croatia in a World Cup qualifier, picking up the ball in the opposition half and firing home via a deflection. It was the Faroe Islands’ only goal in a 3–1 defeat, but capped off a memorable campaign for him personally.

Why it matters for Town: Turi’s confidence is sky‑high, and he returns to Blundell Park having scored on the international stage against elite opposition.

jude soonsup-bell
thailand

Jude has enjoyed a breakout international window after formally committing to Thailand. He made his debut in a 3–2 win over Singapore, winning a late penalty, and then scored twice in an Asian Cup qualifier against Sri Lanka — a header and a powerful close‑range finish.

Why it matters for Town:
He returns sharper, settled, and with his first international goals under his belt — a huge boost for a player still developing his identity in the Mariners’ attack

clarke oduor
kenya

The third call-up is Clarke Oduor, who continues to be a key part of the Kenyan national setup. His versatility — able to play wide, centrally, or at full-back — makes him a valuable asset for both club and country. Kenya’s staff rate him highly.

Impact for Town: Oduor’s athleticism and adaptability and availability are central to Grimsby’s strength in depth. International minutes will help keep him match-fit and tactically sharp.
